CSA 2012
We now have shares available for the 2012 CSA Season!
--------------------------------------
What is CSA?
CSA stands for community supported agriculture. CSA is a relationship of support and commitment between a farm and a community. Participants pay the farmer a membership fee at a reduced rate, which covers some production costs. In turn, members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the growing season. Both share the risks and benefits involved. By supporting your local farmer you are not only receiving healthy naturally grown food, you are helping the environment by eliminating the extra fossil fuel and packaging required to transport your store bought food over long distances.
Local Harvest has summarized the advantages nicely:

What is a share?
A share is approximately a bushel and will feed two people generously or a family of four with small children. A half share is approximately a 1/2 bushel. Your share will consist of different quantities and varieties of fresh vegetables and herbs that are ripe each week of the share. We grow a large variety of crops so you may be able to try something new.
Our season runs for twenty weeks beginning the first week in June and ending with our "gleaner's share" in mid-October.
Our weekly newsletter will have farm information and recipe ideas for using the weeks share.
Members will also be invited to special Farm Days and festivals.
Some of the items you may expect:
Early: mixed greens, carrots, beets, radishes, broccoli, cabbage, onions
Mid: potatoes, beans, assorted peppers, cabbage, cucumber, eggplant, summer squash, assorted tomatoes, melon
Late: greens, beans, squash, brussel sprouts, carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, turnips
The quantity and variety of a share will vary with the time of year and the weather. You will receive as much variety and quantitiy as the conditions allow. As partners we share in the benefits of crops that grow well and the risks of weather or crop failure. Many times there are crops that do extremely well and others that do not produce as expected.
